Chief of Staff (full-time)

We are excited to add our second full-time staff member, a Chief of Staff (CoS), to work alongside our Founder & CEO and Senior Advisor. The Chief of Staff will translate DEPLOY/US’ ambitious, long-term vision into day-to-day operations and strategy. The CoS will manage effective and efficient internal decision making and will serve as a critical node of communication between the management team and DEPLOY/US’ stakeholders, including prominent climate and clean energy thought leaders and policymakers, as well as DEPLOY/US’ Board of Directors, donors, part-time employees and contractors.

A trusted advisor, thought partner and resource, the CoS will ensure the CEO’s and Senior Advisor’s highest and best use as strategists and fundraisers by acting as the “air traffic controller” for the organization, directing attention and resources to priority matters, ensuring effective leverage of the CEO, and providing critical advice.  

The ideal candidate for this position will possess highly developed interpersonal and influencing skills, superior writing ability, excellent organizational skills, strong judgment and tact, and the ability to juggle multiple projects and details while driving toward deadlines. He/she will possess the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, start-up environment working on the cutting-edge of climate change and clean energy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to both the Founder / CEO and Senior Advisor on strategic direction, program development, fundraising, and board and staff management

  • Support management of DEPLOY/US’ relationships and networks, including interfacing with influential leaders and DEPLOY/US’ Board of Directors, donors and other constituents and stakeholders

  • Track and manage programmatic and fundraising priorities for the CEO to ensure time and attention is focused most effectively; support CEO in major funder research and engagement

  • Maintain strong communication with the CEO and Senior Advisor to ensure alignment/understanding of key issues and decisions such that the CoS can execute formal decision-making authority in the absence of the CEO, and act as the CEO’s surrogate when she is not available

  • Prepare the CEO and Senior Advisor for meetings and events, coordinating and managing appropriate resources

  • Support strategic management of the Board of Directors (including board development, strategy, evolution, etc.) including managing regular communication, developing Board packages, and organizing board meetings

  • Support the CEO’s correspondence including writing, transcribing, and editing

  • Support the CEO with special projects including research, event planning and management, preparation for speaking engagements, social media activities and DEPLOY/US operations including hiring

  • Manage DEPLOY/US personnel including part-time staff and contractors

Who We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; advanced degree welcome

  • 5-7 years of professional experience, including experience with a start-up or fast-growing entrepreneurial organization; high comfort level with ambiguity and strong entrepreneurial stance

  • Strong mission alignment, including facility with right-of-center politics and leadership, and connections to right-of-center networks and communities

  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail

  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively and independently in a fast-paced environment, simultaneously leading multiple projects, effectively prioritizing time and tasks, and managing people and relationships

  • Leads with humility, and learns and grows from mistakes; willingness to participate in and contribute to a real-time feedback culture

  • Exceptionally reliable with a high level of maturity and sound judgment

  • Strong command of Microsoft Office programs, specifically Word, EXCEL, and PowerPoint, Google Drive, contact management database management

  • Available to work evenings and weekends as needed; some travel required

Boston, MA preferred or Remote (3-hour or less direct flight to Boston)

Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a generous annual performance bonus and generous paid time off. DEPLOY/US will offer a stipend for health/dental benefits in 2019 and intends to add a competitive full benefits package in 2020.
